Project Details:
The Microsoft Data Centre project in Newport is a major commercial development being delivered by John Paul Construction Ltd, with the overall development representing an estimated investment of between £300 million and £500 million. As part of the scheme, our surfacing team has been appointed to deliver the associated access roads and car parks required to support the new data centre facility.
Our surfacing package is valued at approximately £960,000 and includes the construction of extensive access roads and car parking areas. The works incorporate a three-layer asphalt construction, comprising base course, binder course and surface course, providing a strong, durable and hard-wearing surface designed to withstand the demands of a major operational data centre.
The project is being delivered to exceptionally strict deadlines, with the wider construction programme working towards the ambitious target of creating what is intended to be Microsoft's fastest-built data centre. This requires close coordination with the principal contractor and other trades, alongside careful planning and efficient delivery of the surfacing works to ensure key programme dates are achieved.
The new access roads and car parks will provide essential infrastructure for the completed facility, supporting staff, visitors, service vehicles and operational traffic while providing safe and reliable access across the development.
With our surfacing package valued at £960,000 and the wider development representing an investment of up to £500 million, this is a significant project for both the region and the wider technology infrastructure sector.
The project is currently ongoing and is scheduled for completion in October 2026.
